We launched on Product Hunt today. Here's how our launch film opens
We make launch films, so ours had to follow our own rule: earn second one, be understood by second six. Here's the film, beat by beat.
Nivor went live on Product Hunt at 12:01 AM Pacific this morning. The gallery opens on our own launch film, 43 seconds long, the same film that's on our homepage. Watch it first, then read how it's built.
0–3 seconds: the whole idea, first
The film opens on one line that's on screen from the first frame: "Your product deserves…" cycles through attention and clarity, then lands on "a launch film." The voice says the full line from 0.4 seconds, and the words carry it with the sound off. No logo, no intro. By second three you know what Nivor is for.
The rule: name what you are before the viewer has a chance to wonder.
3–23 seconds: the story every founder knows
A prompt asks "What are you building?", then three months of building play out in a few seconds: sketching the first screen, writing version one, fixing what breaks. "It works." A finished product appears. The products in this part are imagined examples, so the story belongs to the viewer, not to one company.
23 seconds: the turn
One card: "But no one has seen it yet." It's the shortest beat in the film, two seconds, and it carries the problem we solve. A switch flips from Built to Launched, and the film changes direction.
The rule: give the problem one sentence and one beat. Don't explain it.
26–38 seconds: show the work, don't list it
"Nivor writes it, voices it, cuts it for every feed." Each verb lands on screen with a frame, and the last one fans out into the three shapes every launch needs: 16:9, 4:5 and 9:16. Then the promise: "Your product, understood in seconds."
38–43 seconds: one action
The film ends on our mark and a single call to action: book your launch film. One ending, one thing to do.
What we're doing today, and what we're not
- We're replying to every comment on Product Hunt, all day.
- We're sharing the launch and asking people to take a look. We're not asking anyone to upvote, and we're not using upvote groups.
- We're not promising numbers. We'll share honestly how the launch went, the same way we break down other people's launches in our Launch Teardowns.
Launching soon yourself?
We'll write the first six seconds of your launch film and send it to you, free. Request a sample hook, or come say hi on Product Hunt.
